Course Content:
This course offers practical mindset training for those at risk of vicarious trauma, especially professionals supporting others through distressing situations. Participants will learn to recognise the signs of vicarious trauma, understand the neuroscience behind it, and explore grounding, self-care, and resilience practices such as visualisation, tapping, and gratitude. The session aims to equip attendees with tools to reduce overwhelm and create a sustainable self-care strategy.
This is an experiential workshop. There will be some theory and discussion about definitions of vicarious trauma and how to recognise and manage it.
There will also be an opportunity to be led through guided meditations, mindful movements and visualisations.
Participants will be split into breakout rooms for discussion.
Course Aims/Objectives:
- To have an understanding of what vicarious trauma is
- To gain some practical skills in using mindfulness and visualisation to manage personal experiences of overwhelm and vicarious trauma.
- To gain a personal strategy to manage overwhelm and vicarious trauma
Course Method:
The workshop is run in the form of a small group training. The presenters will present information and will invite high levels of participation and sharing of knowledge and ideas. Prepared slides/handouts guide the process rather than impart information.

- Powerpoint presentations
