Course content

Issues of interpreting between two languages.

How to effectively work with interpreters and vulnerable people who use/are exposed to a different language to enable:

  • An effective intermediary assessment
  • An improvement of the quality of evidence at ABE

Ability to provide best evidence at court. 

Course aims and objectives

  1. To give intermediaries a better understanding of the issues involved when working between two languages/cultures.
  2. To provide intermediaries with an understanding of the role(s) interpreters have when working and how to work with them as a ‘resource’.
  3. To provide intermediaries with information and strategies on how to facilitate effective communication between vulnerable people (who may use/be exposed to a different language), and the legal system. 

Course method

The workshop is run in the form of a small group training. The presenters will present information and will invite high levels of participation and sharing of knowledge and ideas.  Prepared slides / handouts guide the process rather than impart information.

- Participants to log on 15 minutes prior to start of each session.

- It is required that all participants keep their cameras on throughout the workshop.

- Participants to complete online feedback form post workshop.
