Substance Misuse for Intermediaries

This practical and informative workshop equips intermediaries with the knowledge and skills to effectively support individuals impacted by substance misuse. Participants will learn to recognise signs of substance influence or withdrawal, understand the effects of drugs and alcohol on health and communication, and apply supportive strategies—including grounding techniques—to ensure safety and clarity in challenging situations.

Course Aims/Objectives: 

By the end of the session, participants will:

  1. Understand common health issues and consequences of alcohol and drug misuse.
  2. Recognize the signs of substance influence or withdrawal.
  3. Understand the impact of alcohol/drugs on brain areas related to communication.
  4. Learn strategies to effectively support vulnerable individuals in these situations.

 

Course Method:

The workshop is run in the form of a small group training. The presenters will present information and will invite high levels of participation and sharing of knowledge and ideas. Prepared slides/handouts guide the process rather than impart information.

- Participants to log on 15 minutes prior to start of each session.

- It is required that all participants keep their cameras on throughout the workshop.
